• “The Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words” – When we go blank as we don’t know what to pray for, how to pray, or do not know the use of perfect words to express our prayers, the Holy Spirit adds sense even in our wordless prayers. He aligns our hearts with God’s.

There is power in prayer as it can bring a person back to life. Jesus is powerful, his name is powerful so the real power of prayer resides in the God who is being prayed to. Jesus answers all the prayers, especially the ones which are for others. Prayers should come straight from your heart; your intentions must be pure towards what you’re praying for. If you pray for the health of your children, Jesus will act as a shield and protect them. If you pray for someone who is sick, Jesus will act as a healer. If you pray to get rid of your sins, Jesus will bring mercy to you. If you pray for someone who is suffering from anxiety or depression, Jesus Christ will help them in getting peace of mind. All you need to do is to put pure intentions in your prayers and Jesus will listen to your prayers, and will move in response to your prayers.

History and origin of Jesus prayer –

A Jesus Prayer also known as a repetitive and formulaic prayer which was settled by the Desert Fathers and Desert Mothers in the 5th century. The Jesus prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner” is the most powerful, shortest, and simplest prayer in the world. By repeating the name of Lord Jesus Christ in the prayer, we pray to him for mercy by saying “have mercy on me, a sinner. However the phrase “a sinner” was added later as it was not included in the original form of the Jesus prayer.

Islam
Islamic meditation, or we can say Sufism basically focuses on the thinking that leads to sustainable knowledge and utilization of different methods of breathing control and the repetition of some Islamic holy words or mantras. Islamic meditation contains several similarities with Buddhist meditation, such as the focused introspection and the concentration technique. Meditation is a process to enhance the healing ability and creativity, and it also helps in awakening the heart and mind by allowing inner growth and submission to God, Allah.

Sikhism
In Sikhism meditation is known as “Simran”. Alongside good deeds in Sikhism, Meditation is needed to achieve spirituality among oneself. The meditational practice in Sikhism is used to feel the presence of Waheguru. According to Sikhism, there are ten gateways to the body, among which nine are physical holes such as eyes, ears, mouth, nostrils, urethra, anus and the tenth is the DasamDuar, which is an invisible hole for spiritual uses that is needed for enlightenment and self-realization.

The Power In the Name – Jesus Christ

Jesus Prayer Has Two Functions
Basically, the Jesus Prayers in Church aimed for two important things. The first is worship and the second one that helps us live the virtues in union with our God, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Prayer Has Three Stages in Practice
Three stages are involved in Jesus’ prayers of progress. When someone begins to pray at Church by repeating the words of the prayer out loud or at least moving the lips, that stage is known as verbal prayer. Time passes by when praying becomes silent or mental like it is only repeated in the mind of an individual, that stage is called mental prayer. The third stage is when the Jesus Prayer becomes a continuous prayer in the heart or the inner core of ourselves.

Jesus Prayer in Practice
Our spiritual Fathers tell us during the prayers that we say the prayer over and over many times till it becomes a part of our daily routine. Once you add Jesus Prayers to your morning routine, it helps you bring mental peace. While saying Jesus Prayers verbally, you should focus on each word and then say it repeatedly for 15 minutes at first and later on you can expand to 30 minutes. With the help of Jesus Prayers you will get help in dealing with your thoughts in a better way. Jesus Prayers in Church are important and be sincere enough in your prayer to make it worthy. When our mind is totally concentrated on our God, Jesus Christ we discover a very personal and direct relationship with Him.

That Jesus was a man of prayer is without question. My guess is he spent extended time each and every day praying to his Father in order to find direction, strength and power. Luke tells us that Jesus “often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16). Mark notes at the very beginning of his Gospel what was probably a daily practice for Jesus: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). Sometimes Jesus spent the entire night in prayer (Luke 6:12).

It is important to note the connection between Jesus’s ministry and his prayer life. In Mark 1:32-34, Jesus healed all the sick in the town, and cast out all the demons. Mark tells us that this ministry took place after sunset. Rather than sleeping in after this amazing ministry, Mark notes that Jesus got up before the sunrise in order to pray. I’m sure that Jesus was exhausted, but he knew that his strength came from God the Father, so his prayer time could not be compromised. It is clear that Jesus’s ability to minister powerfully came from as a result of his prayer time; these two are intimately connected.

The disciples, though, did not understand that Jesus needed to pray, because verse 36 tells us that they looked for Jesus to return to the ministry. It is almost as if they are saying to him, “Quit wasting your time here in prayer. Come on back to Capernaum where you have healed the sick and demon possessed.” Things were going great in ministry, and Jesus goes to pray.

This necessity of seeking the Father for direction, strength and power is not limited to Jesus. When the disciples returned from their preaching travels later in Mark chapter six, Jesus tells them to go to a lonely place: “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest’” (Mark 6:31). Since elsewhere in Mark the “quiet place” is a place of prayer, we can assume that Jesus is instructing the disciples that they, too, need prayer.
The disciples do not understand the necessity for the pattern of prayer. In Mark 9:9-29, when a man brings his child to Jesus to be healed from his terrible ailment, they try their hand at exorcizing the demon and fail miserably. “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” they ask (Mark 9:28). Jesus’s response is gently accusatory: “This kind can come out only by prayer” (Mark 9:29). Implicit in his answer is the criticism that the disciples had not prayed. They had engaged in arguments with the crowd rather than engaged in prayer with God. It may explain their persistent misunderstanding and recurring failures throughout the Gospel of Mark—they do not pray. When dealing with evil so fierce and destructive, it takes prayer—a pattern of prayer.

The busy Christian today probably can identify with the disciples. The demands for action frequently interrupt the need for study and prayer. Many of us want to spring into action before preparing our hearts and minds before God. The worse thing that can happen is for us to be successful, because then we might delude ourselves into thinking that prayer and study are dispensable extras in discipleship.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.”

There are many times during our Christian experience when we are going through the challenges of life, or the enemy is coming in like a flood, and we need to find strength in God.

A prayer for strength is often needed during difficult times. God is always here for us, to give us strength and lift our hearts when all seems hopeless.

Most of us realize that our own strength is not always enough to get through some of the situations that this life brings.

At those difficult times, it is wise to call on God for extra strength and for His strength to help sustain you when your own strength fails.

Try these three powerful prayers for strength when you need it. Believe me, eventually you will.

When You Doubt

Dear God, I need Your strength today and every day. I can do nothing without you, but I can do all things only through Jesus Christ, Who will strengthen me.

I need this strength every day. You can uphold me by Your righteous right hand, and only by Your Spirit can I endure.

I depend on You every day, and this is what You really desire, anyway. Help us, Your beloved children, to focus on You, the object of our strength and the source of our salvation.

We as the children of God are not our own source of strength. Thankfully, You, God, are the source of our strength and can keep us going in ways that we cannot of ourselves.

Your word says in Psalm 28:8 “The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.”
When my own strength fails, Yours takes over, and I thank You for having access to You through Jesus Christ, in Whose precious name I pray. Amen.

When You Fear

Dear Lord, I do tend to fear. Please forgive me when I do. I also am dismayed at times by the heavy burdens of life, so thank You for this reminder of Yours from Your Word, that I have no reason to fear or be dismayed.
I recognize that I am my own worst enemy. Help me to know that You are my God and You have promised to strengthen me and help me.

By Your right hand, the hand of sovereignty and strength, You uphold me, for which I am eternally thankful. I pray this to You, oh Great Father, through Your Son’s awesome name, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Second Corinthians 12:9-10 reminds me that “Your grace is sufficient for me, for your power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

In Jesus Christ’s great name I pray. Amen.

When You’re Weak

Father God, when I am weak, You are strong, and Your grace is enough for me, as Your power is perfected in my weakness.

So, when I am feeling especially weak, I must realize only then am I strong because of You, for I have nothing to boast about except my weakness, but that’s how Christ’s power can rest upon me.

Your word says in Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” I will lean on this word.

Only in You can I endure because I have no chance without You, and in the mighty name of the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
